Fourth Blog – The Apple

A Poem in the style of William Carlos Williams –

 

Such a small thing

an apple falling from a tree

 

nearby a man

with a young mind

 

Newton’s world expanding

moon landings, black holes;

 

Stellar movement,

the cosmos following!

 

I felt that William Carlos Williams very concise and simple style of poetry was perfect to tell the whirlwind tale of mankind’s scientific leaps. The likely apocryphal story of Isaac Newton standing in a garden when an apple fell from a tree, sparking off his theory of gravity and Newtonian movement plays its part to tell this story.
